Barb Peck

Admissions & West Bld I Manager

I came to Byron Center Manor through my mother-in-law.  I chose Byron Center Manor for her, and a few months later, I was approached by Jean, the administrator.  She told me she knew I was the person she wanted for an important role here.  I prayed about it and accepted the position.  It has been a blessing to me ever since.

I love my current role as admissions manager.  I meet with families who are going through similar steps that I had recently taken with my own family, placing a loved one in someone’s care.  I also enjoy working throughout our entire community, getting to know the residents and their families.

I have worked in a variety of fields: from factory work to medical assistant in pediatrics to managing a family practice for a local doctor to medical billing.  I was also the primary care giver for my mother-in-law for 10 years.

I was raised in a rather large family, being 1 of 13 children. I am still a member of the same community I was raised in, and family is extremely important to me. I have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren.  My free time is spent with them, gardening, fishing or camping.

When I met Barb, I was struggling with the decision of whether to put Mom in assisted living. Barb understood the pain in making the right decision. Mom was resistant to this move, and when I felt that Barb understood what we were going through, that she would walk alongside of us, I knew this is where Mom belonged. Barb prayed in our meeting that the move would go great, and gave valuable advice on when to tell Mom, and how to make the transition go more smoothly. I never felt pressured by Barb – Barb has the gift of compassion and empathy. While home care was filled with stress and worry, now I can be Mom’s daughter again in what is still a difficult season made much easier with the way the whole team cares for Mom.
