About Us

Assisted living facility at Byron Center Manor, Grand Rapids MI Nothing matters more than family. We know what you’re going through because we’ve taken the journey with our own family.

In 1989, our parents Ron and Johanne Cook opened the Independent Living section of Byron Center Manor. With no licenses available for nursing home beds in the state of Michigan and our grandmother living in an environment that didn’t provide the best circumstances, we felt compelled to provide this level of service. After a bit, Gram moved in. At the same time, Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the young age of 55.

Just three years later, we built Assisted Living at Byron Center Manor and again, as the needs of the community and our family became apparent, Gram moved in after she broke her hip. She died here with us years later under hospice care while still in Assisted Living.

In May 2003, we opened the Memory Care section of Byron Center Manor to serve both those in Adult Day Services and those needing 24-hour care in a secure environment. No longer safe at home, Mom moved into our Assisted Living for a short period until Memory Care was fully constructed.

Yet our passion for serving those with dementia didn’t end there. In 2009, we began research and design for Twilight Care. We are one of a handful of facilities in the county to offer this level of expert nighttime dementia care. Not to mention a well-deserved rest for our families struggling to get a good night’s sleep so they can be better caregivers themselves.

We encourage you to visit Byron Center Manor soon so you can see for yourself the difference that we have to offer when it comes to senior care.
